This is our first trip since the Covid cross border measures were eased. Yet we were a little cautious and decided just to make a short trip across the causeway.
The first thing on arrival at Genting was to splurge on lunch at Burger and Lobster Sky Avenue with the grilled Original Lobster and fried Durian Tempura. The herbs and cheese were oozingly flavorful and the durian tempura was crisp and uniquely tasteful. But I still prefer my durians from the seed pouch. It was deliciously exciting after the arduous 8 hour bus ride and the 3 year hiatus of the pandemic.
For a very long time, we skipped suppers. But we could not give this a miss at DAFU Congee 粥大福 as porridge was cravingly comforting especially in the cold of the night at Genting. Also, we could not resist the crispy fried stuff. Yum Yum
It was extremely easy to book bus tickets from Genting to KL Sentral via the kiosks located in the hotel lobby. We took the free Awana Skyway cable car ride at Sky Avenue station to Awana Station where we boarded the bus at Genting Awana Bus Terminal located on the lower ground which is also the arrival and departure platforms. You can also book the bus ticket here
This is the first time we stayed at the Fifth Element Hotel KL and we were pleasantly surprised that the room was bright, clean and spaciously roomy at 26sqm. The windows overlook the busy streets of eateries, shops and market at the famous Petaling Street and its surrounding, famously known as Chinatown. The location of the hotel was walking distance from the Pudu Sentral Bus Terminal where the bus dropped us. And the nearest MRT is Pasar Seni on the red line which we took to KL Sentral for the coach ride home.
Whenever we visited KL, we will seek out Choy Kee Claypot Chicken Rice
财记瓦煲鸡饭 at Jalan Sultan a short walk from the hotel. The stall is non descript but the claypot rice is cooked with its ingredients to perfection over charcoal fire. To top it all is the bitter sweet crispy scorched rice at the bottom of the claypot which we never let it go to waste.
Our usual famous food fare at Petaling Street which include piping hot porridge that warms the stomach, chee cheong fun soft and fragrant with sesame seeds, Madras Lane yong tau foo, delectable duck with aromatic herbs and spices
Also tried out the dim sum takeout from Bunn Choon Restaurant, a short walk from the hotel as the wait for tables was unbearingly long. Food was top notch but service at the counter was lacking.
Not forgetting, the silky soya bean curd that melts in the mouth
Street foods too..the sweet aroma of BBQ chicken wings, pan fried squid, popiah
and sweet sweet delight of chendol If there was any highlight for the trip, it would be the visit to the miniature museum at RM25 per person. But it was worth it as we spent almost 2 hours looking at the miniatures which were amazingly intricate artworks
On the whole, the trip was fun and enjoyable though it was nothing more than just a relaxing food trip. The only issues were getting through immigration as there were many people and the customs clearance was also pacing very slowly. In fact, the coach queue to return home was a relentless wait of almost 1.5 hours. We arrived at 530pm near the checkpoint but it snaked through to 7pm before we saw the customs officer
